Pausing scheduled backups

Hold every scheduled backup for 1, 4 or 24 hours from the notification-area icon, skip one job's run tonight, or pause the backup that is running now.

Sometimes tonight is the wrong night: a presentation to finish, a slow hotel connection, a drive you have lent out. GBM AI has three ways to hold a backup back, depending on how much you want to hold.

Pause every scheduled backup#

  1. Right-click the GBM AI icon in the notification area, next to the clock.
  2. Point to Pause scheduled backups.
  3. Choose For 1 hour, For 4 hours or For 24 hours.

While the pause lasts:

  • Home shows Scheduled backups are paused until 14:30, with Resume now.
  • The icon's tooltip says Scheduled backups paused until 14:30.
  • Backups you start yourself still run, and a backup that is already running carries on.
  • The pause holds after a restart of the PC.

To end it early, click Resume now on Home, or right-click the icon and choose Resume scheduled backups.

Important

A pause delays; it does not skip. A backup that falls due during the pause runs once, as soon as the pause ends.

If the PC is off or asleep when the pause ends, the usual catch-up rule applies from the end of the pause. See Missed runs.

The pause is only in the notification-area icon. If you have hidden the icon, turn Settings ▸ General ▸ Show GBM AI in the notification area back on.

Skip one job's run tonight#

  1. Open Jobs.
  2. Turn off the job's On switch. Scheduled runs are skipped until you switch it back on.
  3. Tomorrow, turn it back on.

A run that fell due while the job was off does not run later. The job carries on from its next scheduled time. Nothing is deleted while a job is off.

Pause the backup that is running#

Pause on Home's live panel, on the run page, or Pause this backup in the icon's menu. The run stops where it is and keeps what it has done; Resume carries on from there. See Running, pausing and stopping a job.

To give up on tonight's run altogether, Stop it instead. A backup stopped while it is writing keeps nothing from that run; the next run starts from the last complete backup.
