Backing up

Four ways to copy. One that fits.

Full, incremental, differential or mirror. Open files included. Small files packed.

Which type, and when.

Most people want incremental. The wizard explains each type as you choose.

Full

Everything, every time. Simplest to restore.

Incremental

Only what changed. Smallest and fastest.

Home

Differential

All changes since the full. Two sets at most to restore.

Home

Mirror

An exact copy of the source. No older versions.

Open files

The file you still have open is copied too.

A Windows snapshot at the start of the run catches files Outlook, browsers and databases hold open.

Needs administrator rights, or the Windows service. Anything skipped is listed in the run report.

OneDrive and Google Drive

Even the files that live only in the cloud.

Windows keeps older OneDrive files online-only. GBM AI downloads each one, backs it up, and gives the space back.

Downloaded

Just for the backup, keeping 2 GB free on the drive.

Backed up

Like any other file, to a drive you own.

Online-only again

The space comes back. Your PC ends where it started.

Google Drive’s G: drive is backed up like any other. Incremental backups download only what changed; a full backup downloads it all again. Offline, the report lists what could not be fetched and the next run gets it. A switch in Settings turns it off.

Compression

Smaller on the drive.

Off, Balanced or Max, per job. Identical files are stored once in each set.

AES-256 encryption per job, from Home. A lost password cannot be recovered.

Thousands of small files. No penalty.

Small files are packed together, so the drive writes a few large files instead.

6.5×

faster, for thousands of small files

20,200 small files to a USB 3 hard disk: 40 s packed, 260 s one by one.

A fast SSD closes the gap.

Tested at scale

Five million files. One backup.

Backed up, restored, and every file compared byte for byte.

5,000,000

files in one backup set

  • 0

files different after the full restore

  • 4 min

for the next run, with nothing changed

  • 5 s

to bring back one file of the five million

Five million 1 KB files, with small-file packing on and off, on a Surface Laptop: Snapdragon X2 Elite, 32 GB, NVMe SSD. GBM AI 10.0.49.
