The 15-day trial

Fifteen days of Pro (or Home) with no account and no card: what is on, how you are warned, and what happens at the end.

Updated
On this page

The default setup starts a 15-day Pro trial on the PC it is installed on. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to type in: every Pro feature is on from the first minute.

The setup you install first decides the trial:

Home Trial15 days of Home
Freenone: Free from the first day

What is on during the trial#

A trial has its edition's features.

  • Pro trial: unlimited jobs, network shares and NAS, S3-compatible cloud, AES-256 encryption, differential and mirror backups, age-based retention, advanced schedules, running with nobody signed in, pre/post commands, CPU, disk and bandwidth limits, email and webhook alerts, and 100 Genie prompts a month.
  • Home trial: the same without cloud, service mode, pre/post commands, limits and webhooks, and with 40 Genie prompts a month.

One thing needs a purchased licence: Genie9 sends it email alerts. During the trial, email alerts go through your own mail server instead. See Email alerts.

Where you see it#

  • The account card at the bottom of the rail: Pro trial · 12 days left.
  • Account & licences (click the account card): the edition, and Every Pro feature until the end date.
  • The icon in the notification area: Trial ends in 3 days in its tooltip, for the last three days.

If you are signed in on the PC, Genie9 also emails your account address when 3 days are left and on the day the trial ends. A PC that is never signed in gets no emails.

What happens at the end#

Backups pause until you choose how to carry on. Two rules make that safe:

  1. Nothing is deleted. Every job, setting and backup stays as it is.
  2. Restore keeps working. You can restore any file from any backup, in any edition, for ever. The decision screen has Restore files on it.

The screen offers three ways on:

  • Buy Home ($39) or Buy Pro ($79): the Genie9 store opens in your browser, and every job resumes the moment the licence activates.
  • Continue on Free: pick up to two jobs to keep running. The others keep their settings and wait, one click from resuming after an upgrade.
  • Already bought GBM AI? Enter a licence key: type the key you have.

The details are in When the trial ends.

Buy before it ends and nothing changes#

A Home or Pro licence activated during the trial replaces it. Jobs keep running and nothing pauses. See Buying and activating a licence.

Note

The trial is one per PC, and the first setup installed decides it. Installing again, or installing another setup over it, does not start a new trial. A PC that started on Free stays on Free until you buy.
