Test Your Internet Connection Speed

Backing up data to Genie remote servers mainly depends on your internet connection speed and the amount of data transmitted to the servers. Bandwidth is the factor used to measure your internet speed and is the amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period (usually a second). This kind of bandwidth is usually expressed in bits (of data) per second (bps). Bandwidth can vary from time to time depending on network traffic and bottle necks; i.e. the whole network depends on the slowest connection cable.

There are numerous sites that offer testing internet bandwidth, here are a couple of site that offer bandwidth testing for free:

Once you got your actual bandwidth, you can estimate your uploading time by the following equation:

Upload Time= Data size in bits/ Upload Bandwidth (in Kbps)

In GBM, your data will be compressed before sending to the remote location, making the backup size smaller, in most cases by half, so divide your backup size by half and if it is in MB, Multiply by 8,000 and if it is in GB, multiply by 8 million
